What’s Our Common Purpose?

The Westminster Catechism says our purpose is:
šŸ› ā€œTo glorify God and enjoy Him forever.ā€

John Piper tweaks it:
šŸ”„ ā€œTo glorify God by enjoying Him forever.ā€

Great answers! But let’s make it even more practical.

Love God. Love People.

I believe God calls us to experience and love Him—and to experience and love others.
That’s the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40).

But here’s the thing…
šŸ›‘ We can’t love God while ignoring people.
šŸ›‘ We can’t love people while neglecting God.

Why? Because God’s heart is always for people, and He is the source of ALL love.

Love = Fulfilling God’s Purpose

Paul puts it plainly:

šŸ’” ā€œWhoever loves others has fulfilled the law.ā€ (Romans 13:8)
šŸ’” ā€œLove does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law.ā€ (Romans 13:10)

Loving others isn’t a side mission—it’s the whole thing!

Are You Taking Hold of Reset Opportunities?

Why did God include rest as part of His created order?

Animals rest.

Birds rest.

Fish rest.

People rest.

Land also needs rest.

Even machines and computers need rest.

It is God Who created the concept of Sabbath rest and He intended it to be exercised weekly. He also created a daily cycle that includes rest/sleep.

God could have created us without a need for rest, but He didn’t. He clearly values rest. It serves as a kind of reboot. It cleanses our souls from the toxic buildup that life sometimes produces. It heals wounds that have been inflicted. It resets our minds with hope and direction. The rest of God provides a kind of new start.

Sabbath rest includes stopping our regular work, worshiping the God of creation and reflecting upon our lives within the framework of God’s purposes. It also involves delighting in God, creation, our lives, and our connections.
