When we face hard times, it’s natural to cry out to God and ask, “Why me?” But what if we took a moment to listen for His response? What if He were asking us, “Why not you?”
At first, that might sound a little harsh. But look at it from a different perspective, and you’ll see something exciting: God can use even the hardest circumstances in our lives to accomplish something greater than we could ever imagine.
Throughout the Bible, when God called people to do something significant, they often felt afraid, overwhelmed, or completely unqualified. They could have easily asked, “Why me?” But God’s response showed them that they weren’t expected to do it on their own. His grace would be enough. His power would work through their weakness. He would accomplish things through them that they could never accomplish by themselves.
And the same is true for you.
The challenges you face are not beyond God’s ability to use. Even in the middle of difficult circumstances, He can work in your life, grow your faith, and bring glory to Himself.
Consider John 9. Jesus and His disciples encountered a man who had been blind from birth. The disciples wanted to know who was responsible for his blindness. In essence, they were asking, “Why him?”
Jesus answered, “This happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him” (John 9:3).
The man could never have imagined what was about to happen. In just a few moments, Jesus would heal him, and God’s power would be revealed in a way that people would read about for generations to come.
What a powerful reminder that God can work in the middle of circumstances we don’t understand!
So, what are you facing today that makes you ask, “Why me?” Is there a situation that seems impossible to change? Are you dealing with a chronic struggle that has worn you down over time? Maybe you’re facing something that feels bigger than your strength, wisdom, or ability to handle.
Whatever it is, I want to encourage you to consider a different question.
Instead of asking only, “Why me?” begin asking, “Why not me, Lord? How can You reveal Your power and grace through this situation? How can You use these circumstances to grow my faith and bring glory to Your name?”
This doesn’t mean pretending that life isn’t hard or that we have to understand why painful things happen. It means choosing to trust that God can meet us in the middle of our struggles and work in ways we may not yet be able to see.
You may not have chosen your circumstances, but you can invite God to work through them.
So today, instead of focusing only on “Why me?” try asking, “Why not me?” Ask God to show you His grace, strengthen you through His power, and use your circumstances for His glory.
You may be facing something that feels impossible, but you are not limited to what you can do on your own. God can do far more through you than you could ever do apart from Him.
