Spiritual Focus in a Rapid-Fire World

In playoff sports, when the clock winds down and the stakes rise, everything intensifies. The game seems to slow—yet every movement accelerates. Every pass, every play, every decision carries weight. The pressure is palpable, and nothing feels insignificant.

In a similar way, we are living in a high-stakes, high-intensity moment in God’s redemptive story.

Scripture reveals a sweep of progressive revelation from the promises of old, to the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus, to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church. This launched what the Bible calls the “Last Days”—a period that has now stretched over two millennia.

These are days of revelation and power. Days where the Spirit is active. Days in which the Church is called to demonstrate God’s love to the world. Days of preparation—for the end of life as we know it and the beginning of eternal life to come.

Could it be that we are now in the final stretch of these Last Days?

You don’t have to be prophetically inclined to notice: life is moving faster than ever. Technology and information are advancing at rapid speed. Messages can go viral across the world in seconds. Moral choices present themselves instantly—and the impact of our decisions unfolds faster than we can process. We are flooded with both danger and opportunity—good and evil at our fingertips.

Yes, these are intense times. Some see them as dark, as evidence that evil is growing stronger. But what if these are the very days that all of history has been building toward? What if this is the moment those who’ve gone before us were hoping to see—because they cannot be made complete without us (Hebrews 11:40)?

The prophets spoke of a time of rapid growth, sudden restoration, and great spiritual harvest (Amos 9:11–15). Could we be standing at the edge of that fulfillment?

If so, these days require something deeper from us:

  • Greater clarity of purpose

  • Sharper spiritual focus

  • Wisdom beyond human insight

  • Steady grounding in Scripture

  • A lifestyle rooted in prayer

  • A heart that abides in God’s love

As the world speeds up, we must learn to slow down—spiritually. Like athletes reviewing the replays, we must reflect with the Lord on our days, our words, and our choices. As players in the final moments trust their training, we must rely not on our own instincts, but on the indwelling life of the Holy Spirit.

And we must pray—earnestly, consistently, and boldly.

As Paul wrote:

“Do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.”
(Romans 13:11)

We are living in the fast lane of history.
Let’s make sure we’re running with Jesus.

With you,
~ Coach Tom
