What Are You Missing Right Now?
Have you paused lately to notice what’s happening around you?
It’s easy to get so wrapped up in our own lives—the next task, the next goal, the next “important” thing—that we overlook the bigger picture. We become so focused on our own activities that we forget: life is bigger than us.
There’s a whole world, even a whole universe, moving around you right now. And more importantly, God is already at work in that world.
The Kingdom Doesn’t Start With You
Here’s a vital truth: the Kingdom of God doesn't begin with you. It doesn’t depend on your plans, your efforts, or your creativity. The Kingdom is the result of God’s will in action, a manifestation of His purposes unfolding all around us.
It’s been said that God most appreciates what He initiates. That means our role is less about trying to force something to happen, and more about learning to recognize and respond to what God is already doing.
Shift From Striving to Responding
When you understand that the Holy Spirit is already active near you, it changes everything. The pressure to initiate or invent evaporates. You begin to live not from a place of burden, but from a place of discernment and cooperation.
Scripture urges us in Colossians 4:2:
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”
This is how we learn to see what God is doing. Through prayer, we start to discern the movements of God’s Spirit and develop a heart of gratitude. Being spiritually watchful helps us notice divine opportunities—often subtle—that invite us to join in.
Try This Simple Practice
Want to put this into action? Try this:
-
Lift your head. Step back from your own world for a moment. Look around you. What’s happening in your environment, your community, your relationships?
-
Talk to God about it. Ask Him to help you see with spiritual eyes. Journal or record your thoughts.
-
Pay attention. As you gain insight into what God might be doing, respond with gratitude—and begin to participate.
This was how Jesus lived. He said,
“The Son can do nothing by Himself; He can only do what He sees His Father doing.” (John 5:19)
His life wasn’t weighed down by pressure—it was a responsive adventure. And He invites us to live the same way.
Find Rest in a Responsive Life
Jesus calls us to follow His example, saying:
“Learn from Me... and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30)
Are your current circumstances revealing invitations from God—opportunities to step into what He’s already doing?
Pause. Look. Ask. Listen.
And then, join Him.
With you,
~ Coach Tom
