Be Owned and Blessed, Not Burned Out

Owned—in the Best Way Possible

You’ve probably heard some good old-fashioned trash talk in sports: “I own you!” It’s meant to intimidate, to send the message that the other person has no chance unless you allow it. Being “owned” in that context is humiliating—it implies domination and defeat.

But being “owned” by God? That’s something entirely different—and deeply freeing.

The Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:19–20, “You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” That price was the life of God’s Son, given as a ransom to free us from the bondage of sin. Through Jesus, we’ve been rescued from darkness and brought into a Kingdom of light, life, and righteousness.

But here’s the key: living in that freedom means embracing this new identity. You are no longer your own—you belong to Him.

God’s Treasured Possession

Three times in the book of Deuteronomy, God refers to His people as His “treasured possession.” In today’s world, being called a possession might sound negative—like something to be controlled. But in this context, it’s a term of deep affection and value.

Think about your most prized possessions. You cherish them. You know how they work. You protect them. You invest in them. That’s how God sees you—as something treasured and worth protecting, refining, and investing in.

It’s not prideful to believe you are treasured by God—it’s biblical. And if that hasn’t been your experience, maybe it’s time to sit with Scriptures that reveal just how much He loves and cares for you. Our feelings don’t always reflect truth—but God’s Word always does.

Identity Through Ownership

We often associate objects with their owners: “That’s Sarah’s backpack,” or “There goes Joe’s truck.” Possessions take on meaning based on who they belong to. As believers, our identity is shaped by who we belong to—we are God’s.

Even more, we are not just owned—we are adopted. We’ve been brought into God’s family, and we now carry the family name and mission. This is not just spiritual status; it’s a partnership. We are part of a Kingdom that’s advancing, generation by generation—a family-owned business in the best sense.

Owned and Never Alone

So yes, you are “owned.” But in God’s Kingdom, that’s not something to fear—it’s something to celebrate. You are not your own, and you are never left on your own. You are God’s—loved, secured, treasured, and partnered with Him forever.

It’s time to embrace that identity fully—and to live like it.

With you,
