Do you ever catch yourself sizing up your life—wondering if you measure up to others, or even to your own expectations?
We all do this. We compare ourselves to people, timelines, and unspoken standards. And honestly, measuring isn’t wrong in itself. It can help us grow. But if we’re using bent or broken rulers, the results will always be off.
Scripture is often called the “Canon”—the true rule of faith. It gives us a trustworthy way to understand what really matters. But even then, we can take biblical ideas and twist them into something that misses the heart of the Kingdom.
The disciples did this more than once. In Matthew 18, they were busy ranking themselves, trying to figure out who was the greatest. Jesus interrupted their scorekeeping with a startling correction: “Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Matthew 18:3)
He wasn’t talking about childishness. He was inviting them into humility, openness, and the simple clarity that children carry so naturally. Without those qualities, we can’t even recognize the Kingdom—let alone imagine greatness within it.
So here’s the real question:
Are you trying to be somebody—to earn the seat of honor, to be known, to chase the next big thing? Or can you rest in who you are, without all the self-promotion and striving?
Are you always scanning the horizon for the spectacular—promotions, breakthroughs, purchases, rewards—or can you welcome the small gifts of daily life? A child’s laughter. A good conversation. Leaves tumbling down the street. The gentle hush of a quiet room.
The Kingdom of God has a way of sneaking in through what looks small and ordinary: unhurried moments, shared thoughts between you and God, everyday relationships, a second glance that turns into a deeper insight.
So… are you willing to change your measurements? To loosen your grip on “important” and take on the posture of a child again? To breathe, relax, smile, and notice the small things—so the Kingdom can come into focus?
When you shift your way of seeing, you’ll be surprised at how clearly you perceive what Jesus is doing—in your own story and in the lives unfolding around you.
With you,
