Have you recently faced difficulties or felt a sense of hopelessness? It may be more than challenging circumstances—it may be evidence of a spiritual battle. Scripture reminds us that life is not just what we see on the surface. There is a spiritual realm, and it is in conflict. There really is a God, and there really is a devil. Angels and demons are at work, and humanity is caught in the middle of their war. Whether or not we recognize it, this battle is real.
The apostle Paul addresses this reality in Ephesians 6:10–20, urging us to “put on the full armor of God” so we can stand firm. Our goal is not just to survive the fight, but to remain standing when it is over. Spiritual standing must become our way of life.
Here are four ways we can stand:
1. Stand On God’s Truth.
God’s Word is truth. Jesus prayed that His followers would be sanctified—set apart—by this truth (John 17:17). Paul urges us to renew our minds by it, so we are not shaped by the world’s lies (Romans 12:2). This takes discipline: reading, meditating on, and applying God’s Word daily.
Are you intentionally building your life on His truth, or drifting into the enemy’s deceptions?
2. Stand With Jesus.
We don’t fight on our own—we stand in the authority of Christ. He has been given “all authority in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18), and He has entrusted His power to us (Luke 9:1–2). Our strength comes from humility—submitting ourselves to God’s will and staying under His direction (1 Peter 5:6).
Are you walking humbly with Him, aligning your will with His, even when it costs you?
3. Stand Up in Your Identity.
In Christ, you are no longer your own—you were “bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:20). Through salvation, you’ve been adopted into God’s family (Romans 8:15). He is your Father, and you are His beloved child. You carry His name, His authority, and His love.
Do you realize that Christ is in you, and you are in Him? That reality changes everything.
4. Stand Against the Devil.
Once we’ve submitted to God, we are equipped to resist the enemy. James 4:7 promises, “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” We don’t need to debate, bargain, or tolerate his lies. We stand in Christ’s authority and command him to stop.
Is there an area in your life where you need to say, “Stop, in the name of Jesus”?
Finally, remember: God never intended for us to stand alone. We are part of the body of Christ, designed to help one another stand strong in faith. When the battle is fierce, lean on your brothers and sisters in Christ. Together Stand!
With you,
~ Coach Tom
