The Dependence That Leads to Strength

We all enter the world completely dependent on someone else. As newborns, we depend on our mothers (or whoever is caring for us) for everything.

As we grow up, our goal becomes independence. We learn to stand on our own two feet, make our own decisions, and take responsibility for our lives.

Then, as adults, we discover that we accomplish far more through interdependence. Healthy relationships, teamwork, and shared strengths enable us to do things we could never do alone.

But here's something we don't hear very often:

To become spiritually whole and healthy, we actually need all three.

We need to take responsibility for our own lives. We need meaningful relationships with others. And, most importantly, we need to remain deeply dependent on God.

That raises an important question: Why is dependence on God so necessary? Couldn't we simply learn what He wants us to do and then go do it?

Jesus answered that question very clearly:

"Apart from Me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)

Without the presence and power of Christ, we cannot accomplish anything of eternal value.

God created us to live in relationship with Him. We need His wisdom to understand His ways, His strength to obey Him, and His power to accomplish what He calls us to do. Left to ourselves, we often don't know what to do, and even when we do, we usually don't have all the resources we need.

Whether we recognize it or not, we are constantly dependent on Him.

The problem is that we often don't feel dependent until we find ourselves in situations beyond our ability to handle.

When we don't know what to do—or don't have what we need—our natural response is often fear, worry, or discouragement. We can become overwhelmed trying to figure everything out on our own.

But in Christ, there is another way.

Instead of panicking, God invites us to recognize our dependence and call on Him for wisdom, direction, and provision.

This isn't a sign of weakness; it's one of the primary ways God accomplishes His purposes in the world. He allows His people to face challenges that require them to seek Him. As they pray in dependent faith, He provides what they need according to His wisdom, His timing, and His power.

Dependency isn't a temporary stage of the Christian life. It's meant to become our daily posture.

The truth is, we're always in over our heads—and that's exactly where God wants us to discover that He is more than enough.

He longs to deepen your relationship with Him while advancing His Kingdom through your life.

So let me ask you:

Where in your life do you feel inadequate right now? Where do you lack wisdom, direction, strength, or resources?

Rather than carrying the weight alone, bring it to God.

Call out to Him in dependent faith.

That's not a last resort.

It's the way He designed us to live.
