Celebrate Dependence: A Better Foundation for Life

Americans love to celebrate independence. It’s deeply woven into our cultural identity—we value blazing our own trails, defending our freedoms, and providing for ourselves. These ideals can be good and noble. But in the Kingdom of God, the foundation is radically different.

The Kingdom isn’t built on self-sufficiency, but on total reliance—on the grace, will, and power of God. We don’t earn our place in it. We inherit it, through the costly gift of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

This is why Scripture repeatedly invites us into dependence—not as weakness, but as wisdom.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)

True wisdom means trusting God over ourselves. It means acknowledging His presence and power in every part of life.

Yes, we encourage people to work hard and provide for themselves—but even that ability is a gift from God.

“Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth…” (Deuteronomy 8:18)

Provision is part of our covenant relationship with Him. He is the ultimate source. That’s why Jesus told His followers to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness—because when we prioritize God, we can trust Him to meet our needs (Matthew 6:33).

Even Jesus didn’t operate independently.

“The Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing…” (John 5:19)

If Jesus depended fully on the Father, how much more should we? He taught that unless we remain in Him—abide in Him—we won’t be fruitful. Apart from Him, we can do nothing of Kingdom value (John 15:5).

So here’s the real question:
Are you living a God-dependent life, or a self-reliant one?

Are you trying to prove your strength, or are you willing to be meek—to harness your strength under God’s direction, rather than push to prove yourself?

Dependence on God isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom. It’s where true strength is found.

So today—whatever you’re walking through—take time to reflect:

  • Where in your life are you leaning on your own understanding?

  • Where is God inviting you to rest more fully in Him?

  • What would it look like to truly live in Christ in this stage of your life?

Jesus invites you to a different way of living.
Not by independence, but by joyful dependence.

Celebrate your dependence on Jesus. It is a solid place to stand.

With you,
