Where Are You NOW?

Are you able to live in the present?  Many are not.

Some people are haunted by their past.  Possibly they have been hurt by others – and are still carrying the wounds.  Others have made some big mistakes, and they can’t forgive themselves so that they can move on.

We must learn to confess what we have done and receive forgiveness in our souls. We must also forgive others before God – releasing them from their “debt/s” owed us.  This is not always easy work, and it may involve the help of a trusted friend or spiritual leader, but it is ALWAYS possible!

A resource you may find helpful is Total Forgiveness, by RT Kendall.

Some people, on the other hand, are haunted by their future.  Either they are so attached to their dreams that they have trouble being responsible in the present, or they are paralyzed by worry and dwelling on negative possibilities.  Jesus made it clear, however, that worry offers us no benefit – it can add nothing to our lives. (Matthew 6:25-34)  Peter told us to cast our anxieties upon Jesus, because He cares for us.        (1 Peter 5:7)   Paul also told us not to be anxious, but rather to be thankful for what we have and to pray. (Philippians 4:6)

One of the names that God has used to identify Himself is “I Am.”  God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites:  I AM has sent Me to you.”  (Exodus 3:14)  Jesus, too, referred to Himself, a number of times, with “I am” statements.

God makes it clear that He engages us in the present.  He will heal us and teach us from the past, and He will lead and take care of us in the future.  So, we can LIVE in the present!

Today – God is with you … are you with Him?

Engaging Him in the present involves receiving Him as Lord, Healer, and Forgiver/Redeemer of the past.  It means also trusting Him with our future.

When we are present with God, we can then be present in meaningful and powerful ways with others. Authentic undistracted presence is one of the greatest gifts we can offer other people. It cannot be faked; it requires a resolved inner life.
