Power for Kingdom Living

If you want to experience God’s presence, if you want to understand His ways and counsel, and if you want to live in His power, you are going to need the personal ministry of the Holy Spirit.  For some this statement sounds boring and theological.  For others it might be off-putting, and sound too “charismatic.”  For yet others, it is intriguing and enticing.  For everyone – it’s true.

Only the Holy Spirit can reveal, communicate and empower the Kingdom of God in and through you.

The book of Luke makes it clear that Jesus did His ministry by the power of the Holy Spirit.  He was/is the Son of God – fully God.  And, He was/is the Son of man – fully human.  He lived and experienced life just like we do – Jesus was fully human.  However, He was also anointed (enabled) by the Holy Spirit to experience, understand and live in the Power of the Kingdom of God.

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38)

The interesting and awesome news is that we, too, can be anointed with that same enablement for relational experience, understanding and power in the Kingdom of God.  After Jesus had risen from the dead, He told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem.  He said, “I am going to send you what My Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24: 49)  And, He promised them, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)  This power for Kingdom living is available to you in the person of the Holy Spirit, just as He was available to Jesus and the disciples.

The apostle Peter explained what was happening on the day of Pentecost, saying, “God has raised Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.  Exalted to the right hand of God, He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.”  Then Peter declared, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.  And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:32-33,38-39)

  • Let me encourage you to be filled with the Holy Spirit today. (Ephesians 5:18)

  • Declare your desire for fresh and personal revelation of God as your Father in Heaven.

  • Ask Him to teach you the ways of the Kingdom of God – and obey what you learn.

  • Ask for His power, and look for opportunities to pray for people and do the works of the Kingdom.

May His Kingdom be extended through your eyes, heart, mouth and hands!
